Strong Children Japan
Portraits of Japanese children and young people living with the ongoing consequences of the Fukushima Daichi nuclear accident, the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of March 11th 2011. The images and words are made by the children, combined with their portrait by Japan-based English artist Geoff Read done according to their instructions. The aim is to enable them to share their important experiences and thoughts with the world.

Unit 3 of Fukushima I explodes, due to the ignition of built up hydrogen gas, on March 13, 2011. This is the reactor which has the extremely dangerous plutonium-laced MOX fuel. "Uploaded by blondecrazygaijin on Jan 28, 2011 Grisly, South-Park-style video from China makes plain mounting complaints of Chinese people regarding food and building safety, as well as the integrity of public officials. The upcoming year is Chinese Year of the Rabbit, replacing Year of the Tiger... rabbits are cast as the peasantry while public officals are shown as nasty tigers... Scenes in which tiger drivers strike and kill rabbit pedestrian are references to recent incidents in which officials committed negligent accidents, with no charges.

"Nuclear emergency declared at quake-damaged reactor USA TODAY | World Japanese authorities are venting radioactive steam into the air after..."
• : not good! spending my day with concern for the welfare of the earthquake and tsunami survivors, i can't help but think of the long term consequences of events like this (remembering the gulf oil "spill" and reflecting upon Katrina); and so i jump to this: chemical and nuclear contamination coming through various natural disasters around the world, not to mention war, will become a major and overwhelming concern "before we know it" - something that we may, or may not, be able to do anything about.
