Two movies are the top of my must have list: "The Wicker Man" (1973); and, Peter Weir's "The Last Wave" (1977) with Richard Chamberlin, David Gulpilil, and Nandjiwarra Amagula. – bought them this week! 

• "The Last Wave" – a 1977 Australian mystery drama film directed by Peter Weir. It is about a white solicitor in Sydney whose seemingly normal life is disrupted after he takes on a murder case and discovers that he shares a strange, mystical connection with the small group of local Australian Aborigines accused of the crime.
… Plagued by bizarre dreams, Burton begins to sense an otherworldly connection to one of the accused (David Gulpilil). He also feels connected to the increasingly strange weather phenomena besetting the city. His dreams intensify along with his obsession with the murder case, which he comes to believe is an Aboriginal tribal killing by curse, in which the victim believed. As one of dozens traditional "Perchten" groups in our region we're on the roads in Brixlegg, Kramsach, Rattenberg and its surroundings to chase the evil "winter ghosts" within the so called "Perchtenlauf" each year on the 5th and 6th of December since 1999!

The name of this tradition most likely derives from the legend figure "Perchta". Our group consists of 25 people: a "Hex" (=witch), multiple "Läufer" (=runners) and plenty of "Tamperer" (=drummers) who are smashing on old gas canisters of cars.

Tradition, creative rythms, fun and show are important elements of our yearly "Hexentanz" (=dancing witch) events as shown in the video!

Seit 1999 sind wir als eine von zig Perchtengruppen im Tiroler Unterland (Österreich) am 5. und 6. Dezember auf den Straßen von Brixlegg, Kramsach, Rattenberg und Umgebung unterwegs um im Rahmen eines alten Brauchtums - den sogenannten "Perchtenlauf" - die bösen Wintergeister zu vertreiben.

Der Name leitet sich am ehesten von der Sagengestalt "Perchta" ab. #khomus practice session 15 May 2016. not so bad for a beginner?

practice session :: by special arrangement, i received the khomus just over a month ago. i had never even played before, but now i am starting to get a feel for it smile emoticon
– this is a custom high-tech, low-frequency, shamanic khomus by the master builder Николай Бурцев (Burtcev, Nikolai) of Yakutsk, Siberia. an upgraded guimbarde of his series "tankha," it has now arrived and is living in California. it is called "Olonkho." the design is my personal sign combined with a motif of ancient Tengrianism with the meaning of "shamanism plus scientific knowledge." as i am just learning to play for the first time it is truly a great honor to receive such an exquisite instrument.

5 weeks of playing just a little bit each day; sometimes careful, this time i am playing a little more aggressive! - not bad for a beginner?

the one in this photo is described as "shamanic" low-frequency* and the sign represents shamanism + scientific knowledge (perfect!). made with a sign of ancient Tengrianism,2 it is used for healing. just looking at it you can feel the magic, and it inspired me to reach out and find out how to get one. this one was sold some time ago, and Nikolai is now only taking custom orders. the one he makes will be his design based on my customary sign, a "medicine wheel" 1

1 my "wheel" –
with the four cardinal directions, and the balancing between all of the worlds. --- the center point of the cross being where horizontal (physical) and vertical (spiritual) meet; and, then the outer four elements of the quadrants which must remain in balance within the circle. the circle then, again connects all within the universe. also: the points in the quadrants are designed to create movement, begging one to enter into that point in the middle, suggesting meditation and revelation, a shamanic journey which encompasses all.

Otley Gurdy Gathering 9th – 10th November 2013 – Otley, Yorkshire

Welcome to the Otley Gurdy Gathering.

An informal weekend of Gurdy playing, technique learning and tune sharing based at Otley, near Leeds, back for a second year.

Starting on Saturday morning at 11am, the gathering will be at Clifton Village Hall, a mile out of Otley town centre. There is space for indoor sleeping on Saturday night, a full kitchen, mens and ladies toilets and a pub next door. There is a reasonable sized car park for 10 cars / camper vans and a small field if folks are inclined to camp!

Sleeping will be communally in the hall which will sleep 10-12. Otley also has a couple of B&Bs if that is more to your liking.

Cost will be £25 for the weekend, which is just to cover hall hire. This is from 11am Saturday until 11am Sunday, 24 hours and includes 2 workshops.

Spaces are limited due to the hall size. Please make all bookings using the payment page.

The weekend kicks off from 10.30 Saturday morning with tea and coffee before the first workshop of the day.There will be two workshops on Saturday, before a music session in the Roebuck pub, next door.
Workshops are to be run by well known Ockbrook and Leeds player, Jerry Oakes who will be looking at Trompette techniques for French dance – Jerry has been an inspiration to me for many years and I am greatly looking forward to tightening up my skills.

Elk jaar biedt Stichting Draailier en Doedelzak een cursusreeks aan, zowel voor beginners als voor gevorderden. Daarnaast is er een samenspelgroep gericht op optreden.
